Updates Week Ending 5/30/09

I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend! I have a few announcements going into this week:

As of Thursday 5/21 we had 3 people signed up for the Weapons of Opportunity Seminar. We need at least 10 to make this work so we will postpone the seminar until later in the year. So we will run a regular class schedule on Saturday May 30th.

June 12th is our next kids movie night 6:30-9:30p. We will watch "The Forbidden Kingdom" with Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Pizza and snacks will be provided. Fee will be $7.50 per child.

June 13th is our next Friends and Family Class. Adults during the 10am Adult class and Kids during our regular kids class at 11:30am.

I will be traveling this week but can be reached by email and cell phone.

Everyone have a safe week!
Ms. Kris

The recession has many people thinking "I have to cut my expenses". Everyone can understand that. When thinking about which expenses to cut, remember than cutting an expense for which you receive valuable life saving experience should be the last one the list. Your personal safety is YOUR responsibility.

See you in class!

Update - H1N1 (Swine flu) Virus

The H1N1 Virus (swine flu) has many people being very cautious with regards to their exposure to others. At RKMSF we will continue our normal operations taking care to provide a safe and clean facility to our students. Hand sanitizer is provided and antibacterial soaps are in the restrooms.

I am including a link to the CDC website (http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/). The CDC recommends that if you are feeling any FLU symptoms (including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting) that you see your doctor and then stay home from work and other activities until you are symptom free.

It stands to reason that since this flu (as with other flu viruses) makes people feel so rotten, the last thing they want to do is work out. So if you are sick...stay home...get well and we'll see you when you're feeling better!

Stay Well!
Ms. Kris

Message from Master Robert

Hi All,

I hope this finds you well.

Something occurred to me recently while in class and I thought I would pass it along. When was the last time you approached the blocking drills with the attitude you were going to glean something new or different from them? When was the last time you approached a lesson with the idea you were going to take something extra from it? When was the last time you approached an open work out as a learning opportunity? The reason I ask is that there is always something to be gained from these and any drill or exercise we do.

Here’s what I’m asking you to do…for the next three months when you come to class, pay particular attention to a drill, exercise and/or lesson and find something extra in it. Then use that something extra in every class you attend. It will probably be a little something that makes the drill or workout just a little bit better. The more experience you have, the more detailed you can be with your examinations. Pay attention to angles (of approach, entry and strikes), targets, reactions, follow ups, intent, foot work, timing, etc. There are so many layers to what we do that it would take more years than we have to examine it all. If you do this for three months, you’ll experience an incredible growth of knowledge and skill…and you just might develop a very good habit!

I thank you all for being in our Kung Fu family. See you in class!
Master Robert.
